The Hudson community is mourning the heartbreaking and unexpected loss of Owen Surprenant, who passed away on February 20, 2026, in Hudson, New Hampshire.
He was a beloved son, teammate, coach, and friend whose life, though brief, left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
The news of Owen’s passing was shared by the Town of Hudson Recreation Department, where he had grown up participating in youth programs and later returned to serve as a coach.
In a heartfelt message, Recreation Director Chrissy Peterson described Owen as “one of our own,” a young man who had spent his childhood playing recreation soccer and basketball before graduating from high school in 2025.
Owen proudly attended Alvirne High School, where he was a dedicated member of the varsity soccer team.
Playing as a goalkeeper, he wore jersey number 25 during much of his high school career and showed commitment to his team across multiple seasons. From his sophomore year in 2022 through his senior year in 2024, Owen worked hard on the field, representing his school with pride and determination.
Sports were more than competition for Owen. They were about teamwork, growth, and community.
After graduating in 2025, he returned to the Hudson Recreation programs — not as a player, but as a coach.
He was currently coaching recreation basketball, serving as a positive role model to the young athletes who looked up to him.
Just weeks before his passing, Owen had met with the Recreation Director to discuss plans for the upcoming season. He shared thoughtful ideas and genuine excitement about strengthening the 7th–8th grade boys basketball program.
His passion for helping the next generation reflected his generous spirit and deep love for the community that raised him.
The Recreation Department noted that watching children grow up in their programs and later return as mentors is one of the most meaningful aspects of their work.
Owen embodied that full-circle journey. His enthusiasm, kindness, and leadership left a powerful impression on players, former teammates, and fellow coaches alike.
His sudden passing has deeply shaken the entire town of Hudson. The Recreation Department extended heartfelt condolences to Owen’s family, his friends, his former teammates, and the young athletes he coached.
Community members have been asked to keep the Surprenant family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Though his chapter ended far too soon, Owen Surprenant’s influence will continue through the programs he helped shape and the young lives he inspired. His dedication to giving back ensures that his legacy will not be forgotten. Funeral and memorial service arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
